2012 HIGH SCHOOL CHESS LEAGUE
(Team & Individual)
6th, 7th & 8th Graders may play as individuals and with their High School Teams
This league is for Teams and Individuals, so if your school does not have a team you may still play as an individual.

Please note the following schedule:

Sunday, Jan. 8: Tourn. #1 (Rounds 1-3)
Sunday, Jan. 22: Tourn. #2 (Rounds 4-6)
* SATURDAY, Feb. 4: Tourn. #3 (Rounds 7-9)

* Awards will be given out at the end of this tournament.

FORMAT:

  • 3 Rounds, Game in 45 minutes (each opponent)
  • Depending on the number of participants, more rounds may be added in subsequent meetings.
  • (Non-USCF Rated -- USCF membership not necessary - however, USCF rules will be in effect for all games and chess notation is encouraged)

The first meeting on January 8th will be held at:

Haynes Academy Middle School (cafeteria)
1416 Metairie Rd.
Metairie, LA 70005

The sites of the last two meetings will be announced.

TEAM INFO:

You may have as many players on your team as you wish, but only the top 3 scores will count for team standings. Minimum number of players to make a team is TWO, and team players must be from the same school. If there is a tie in team scores at the end of the league for 1st place, then there will be a tiebreaker game (G/10) between one member of each team to determine the winning team.

INDIVIDUAL SCORES:

Players will compete for individual and team scores simultaneously. Points are cumulative over the three team meetings; if there is a tie for individual 1st place, then there will be a tiebreaker game (G/10) between the tied players to determine the winner.

ENTRY FEE:

$25 for all three sessions; $30 at site.

PRE-REGISTRATION:

NOTE: If a player cannot make the first session, he or she may register on-site and play in a subsequent session and the entry fee will be prorated.

ON-SITE REGISTRATION:

On-site registration will be held from 12 noon - 12:30 p.m. the day of the tournament. Please be early so that we may start on time!

MISCELLANEOUS:

Please bring your own chessboard, chess pieces and clock as none will be provided. Only standard regulation chess boards (two color squares only, i.e., black & white, blue & white, green & white, etc.) as well as standard Staunton tournament chess pieces (white and black only) will be allowed in tournament play. Chess vendor will be on site for the first league session.

ALL HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS as well as 6TH, 7TH and 8TH GRADE chess players are welcome to participate in the High School League.
