CAJUN CHESS 2010 SUMMER SERIES USCF-Rated SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT #3

& SWIM PARTY !

(Open to ALL scholastic players Grades K-12)

 

SUNDAY, August 15, 2010

WOODLAKE ESTATES SWIM & TENNIS CLUB

82 Sequoia St.,  Kenner, LA

NOTE:  The chess tournament will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and there will be an opportunity for the players to swim after the tournament is over until 8:00 p.m.  Parents, siblings, and friends may swim anytime from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Both the large pool and the baby wading pool will be available.  The Club fee for each swimmer (including chess players) is  $10, payable on site.  (Note:  Chess players will be allowed to swim only after the tournament has ended.  Please remember to bring your bathing suit to change after the tournament - - and don’t forget a large towel to dry off with afterwards!)

 

4-Round Swiss, G/30

(4 total games--each opponent has 30 minutes to complete his game; NO ELIMINATION, everyone will play all 4 games)

 

Note:  All sections are rated and require USCF membership, which may be purchased on site (see details below).

NOTE:  Each section must have at least 5 players or section will be combined.

 

 

LOCATION:

Woodlake Estates Swim & Tennis Club, 82 Sequoia St., Kenner, LA.  

The club is located at the corner of Sequoia and Platt Streets in Woodlake Subdivision in Kenner.   See directions below. 

 

TIME:

First round will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Awards ceremony immediately after completion of last round -- everything should end around 6:00 p.m. 

 

PRIZES:

Trophies awarded to the top 3 winners in each section; medals to all non-trophy winners.

  

BYES (1/2-point):
Available all Rounds (must commit before Round 2).

 

 

TIEBREAKS:

USCF-recommended computer tiebreaks will decide trophy and medal placements for all winners in scholastic sections.

 

ENTRY FEE:

Entry fee is $15 if received by Thursday, August 12; $20 thereafter and at site.  However, if you are registering additional children in the same family, please see the special rates below:

 

SPECIAL ENTRY FEE FOR SIBLINGS:

If you are registering more than one child in the same family, the entry fee for any additional children after the first one will be $10.  For example, two children in the same family would be $25 ($15 + $10) instead of $30.   NOTE:  YOU WILL HAVE TO REGISTER SIBLINGS ON SITE AS THERE IS NO AVAILABLE ON-LINE REGISTRATION FOR THIS SPECIAL RATE.  THE FEE WILL BE AS STATED (no late fee will be assessed for the sibling rate).

 

PRE-REGISTRATION:

You may register with a credit card on-line at www.cajunchess.com -- click on "Upcoming Tournaments, then on the August 15th tournament, then click on Secure On-Line Entry.

 

ON-SITE-REGISTRATION:

You may register on-site between 12 noon – 12:30 p.m. the day of the tournament.  The first round will start at 1:00 p.m

 

USCF MEMBERSHIP:

One-year membership for players under 12 years of age is $16 (includes 6 issues of Chess Life for Kids magazine); or $19 for players under 15 years of age (includes 6 issues of Chess Life magazine); or $25 for players under 24 years of age (includes 12 issues of Chess Life magazine).  Both magazines are official monthly publications of the U.S. Chess Federation.

 

MISCELLANEOUS:
Please bring boards, sets & clocks, if possible--none will be provided - Chess Vendor (Cajun Chess) will be on site.

 

Tournament rules (i.e., touch-move rule) will be enforced for all sections.  If a player knows chess notation, it is highly recommended that he notate his games.

DIRECTIONS:

Heading west on I-10 (i.e., coming from N.O. East) take the Loyola Exit and turn right (north) toward the lake on Loyola Blvd . . . or if you are coming on I-10 from the west (i.e., Baton Rouge) you will take the Loyola Exit and turn left (north) toward the lake onto Loyola Blvd.  . . . THEN . . . Go 3 miles on Loyola Blvd (you will pass places like the old Kenner Regional Medical Center (now Ochsner), the Louisiana Trace Subdivision, but keep going until you go all the way to the end of Loyola Blvd. at the stop sign, and Joe Yenni Blvd. will be right in front of you as well as the Woodlake Estates Subdivision (with the arches at the entrance).  Go straight across Joe Yenni Blvd. (into the arch entrance) and you will then be in Woodlake Estates Subdivision on Woodlake Blvd.  Go to the second stop sign which will be Platt St.  Turn right, then go about 2 blocks to Sequoia St. and turn right . . . the Club will be at that corner on your left hand side (82 Sequoia St.), but continue just past the club to the private parking lot on your left.
